SUMMARY: The Senior Buyer / Planner is responsible for the development and management of specified groups of commodities and suppliers for Takeda s Round Lake, Illinois manufacturing facility and Takeda s plasma business unit;in the United States; additional responsibility for the development and management of assigned projects; develops short-term solutions to implement long-term agreements; backs up department colleagues and manager on an as-needed basis ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops key suppliers and implements strategies and programs to reduce total cost; fosters supplier partnerships; develops an in-depth knowledge of suppliers, market and economic indicators, purchasing practices and procedures and effectively communicates this information to all levels of management; manages and implements specific procurement strategies and scorecards, which ensure quality requirements and optimize cost, delivery and services while ensuring continued supply Forecasts future pricing and availability of raw materials and products; assists in the annual standard costing process and provides price forecasts; maintains standard costing program to ensure a positive PPV; works with appropriate groups in the qualification and validation of new/revised raw materials, components and products Develops knowledge of purchasing and associated materials management systems; develops skills and knowledge in project management, negotiation, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and contract terms and conditions Develops and implements cycle time reduction programs, especially in non-value added areas; supports Buyers/Planners in negotiating pricing on commodities and suppliers Continues the development, implementation and monitoring of procurement strategies into a "World Class" business environment; identifies, develops, and implements opportunities to support the "One Takeda" concept; supports the division's QOS program Collaborates with: Maintenance, Engineering, Planning, Warehousing, Receiving, Logistics, Quality Systems Engineering, Accounts Payable, Quality Assurance Inspection, Cost Accounting, Environmental Health & Safety, as well as Corporate Supplier Management; provides training and guidance to customers; solves problems, recognizes and anticipates customers requirements and identifies the urgency of these needs; makes prompt judgment calls and keeps customer satisfaction in a quality environment Ensures the Buyer(s)/Planner(s) maintains purchasing-related files within the MRP system Champions this hands-on role with commodities and suppliers alike; delivers results in this tactical and strategic position that focuses on the continued development, implemention and monitoring of procurement strategies into a "World Class" business environment; provides high degree of supplier relation maintenance at all levels, makes sound business allocation decisions and monitors adherence to the tactical/strategic processes developed by the Corporate Supplier Management Team; provides on-going training to suppliers in MRP II and monitors supplier performance in achieving division goals for Purchasing Evaluates the capabilities and capacities of current or proposed suppliers audit visits; reviews and resolves supplier performance issues; promotes rapport with supplier management and encourages closer business relationships Embodies the Takeda Leadership Behaviors: Be Positive. QUALIFICATIONS: Strong software application skills with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint Strong MRP software skills in operation environment Well developed presentation and communication skills Knowledge of UCC and contract law preferred Demonstrated success in leading without authority Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, and to make recommendations based on findings Demonstrated success in responding to detailed inquiries and strong comfort level with presenting information to groups and senior management EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: BA/BS Degree from an accredited university; prefer Business or technical major (Supply Chain, Engineering, Statistics) CPM and/or CPIM certification preferred 5+ years of applicable work experience in supply chain preferred Background in pharmaceutical manufacturing industry desired Knowledge of Total Quality Management and Supplier Partnering desired Project management experience desired PHYSICAL DEMANDS: In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Indoor working conditions General office environment with air conditioning and heating May be required to work in controlled environments requiring special safety gear or gowning; will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment Must be able to work hours necessary to support a 24/6 operation
