Primary Role

The Associate Director, Human Factors /User Experience will lead human factors work to support the development of devices and combination products for delivery of Takeda s wide portfolio of drugs and biologics, focusing on software-based medical devices, connected devices and mobile applications. As part of human factors work, the AD will be responsible for planning and executing user experience research, and user-centered design.

Responsibilities

25%: Work with external human factors consultants to plan, conduct and report out user experience research (e.g., ethnographic studies, contextual inquiry, generative research, concept evaluations) and human factors formative, summative and supplemental studies

25%: Responsible for leading all activities needed to support human factors deliverables for a device or combination product development project, with a focus on software-based medical devices, connected devices and mobile applications

15%: Work closely with software engineers to define user interfaces, using interactions design techniques, including visually designing the interfaces using wireframes, user flows, storyboards, etc.

15%: Actively participate on device development teams to ensure human factors engineering and user experience inputs are considered and implemented at appropriate points in the development process.

10%: Create and communicate project plans, tasks and deliverables. This includes reporting information at key milestones through clear written and verbal communications

10%: Lead efforts to develop processes and procedures that align to company initiatives and relevant human factors engineering standards

Education & Experience Requirements

  • B.S. in Human Factors Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science or equivalent. A minimum of 15 years experience in human factors engineering/user experience OR
  • M.S. in Human Factors Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science or equivalent. A minimum of 10 years experience in human factors engineering/user experience OR
  • Ph. D. in Human Factors Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science or equivalent. A minimum of 8 years experience in human factors engineering/user experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing software-based medical devices and/or mobile applications with a medical or healthcare focus
  • Experience designing medical devices and medical device platforms
  • Experience communicating with the FDA during pre-subs, submissions and related responses
  • Ideally, the candidate has familiarity working in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry and brings knowledge of industry best practices in design, development and regulation of medical devices, software-based medical devices and mobile applications

Other Requirements

Some travel, up to 25%
