As a Head of Commercial Learning and Capabilities working on the Commercial Operations team, you will be empowered to provide strategic direction for training and development of the organization and develop critical commercial capabilities, and a typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • The Head of Commercial Learning and Capabilities will work closely with Business Unit and commercial leadership to develop the vision for commercial training and capabilities aligning strategy and operational insight to integrate cultures, business models, and process changes facing Takeda
  • Responsible for evolving organizational capabilities to address and align with the needs and preferences of our customers, enabling our commercial organization to deliver the most relevant and impactful messaging and resources to our customers, beginning with Health Care Providers (HCPs) and expanding to Payers and Patients
  • Lead a team that develops and delivers sales and product training, account management capabilities, commercial and marketing capability development and programs, and leadership development training for all the US Commercial customer facing teams
  • Serve as key strategic partner to commercial leadership, providing practical insight on commercial capabilities through team-facing activities to drive successful business decisions and outcomes
  • Develops articulated strategic priorities/vision/roadmap for training, development, & capabilities based on a deep understanding of commercial strategic/tactical drivers and the needs of our customers to support sales and product training, marketing capability development, and leadership development training for all the US Commercial customer facing teams

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Needs Analysis

  • Assess US Commercial Training, Development, and Capability needs based on competencies and gaps to design, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative solutions that unify and build a high-performing, patient focused, team
  • Design and implement new training, development, & capabilities programs based on training needs analysis outcomes and in partnership with the business to fully understand skills gaps and future growth requirements

Develop Training

  • Provide oversight and direction for the development of Commercial and Sales Leadership curriculum
  • Proactively identify and define new opportunities to apply the commercial capabilities to deliver valued and actionable insights
  • Identify, build, and enable new capabilities for commercial teams across the US BU, including those outside of sales and marketing roles
  • Apply a deep understanding of adult learning principles to lead and direct the Commercial Training and Development team to create and implement effective solutions for the Commercial organization
  • Partner cross functionally to ensure consistency of design and application in training standards

Training Delivery

  • Work cross-functionally with development managers and key franchise stakeholders to determine best commercial training delivery solutions (e.g., plenary, one-on-one, on-line) that maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the training programs
  • Ensure appropriate training programs for online delivery are available and are delivered through an easy to use, centralized on-line platform
  • Identify opportunities to enhance blended learning capabilities using technology, particularly in the use of iPad based applications and other digital platforms
  • Oversee monitoring of training programs for the Commercial Organization and makes decisions and enhance programs
  • Create and utilize feedback tools to assess impact of training programs and capability development to provide a framework for continuous improvement
  • Assess talent readiness, competency, and capability gaps to create learning experiences that drive execution of our commercial strategy
  • Establish a highly talented Commercial Training and Development team that establishes a robust talent pool for future leadership positions within the organization
  • Manage a central budget that will support the funding of all US Commercial training development, & capabilities initiatives

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor s degree BS/BA
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device industries.
  • Previous management experience in U.S. pharmaceutical commercial management and/or training; responsible for developing and implementing commercial training and development programs and processes that provide value to a commercial organization and successfully integrating the information into actionable training strategies
  • Previous experience in commercial sales management and/or marketing/brand leadership
  • Proven track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change as well as delivering on programs with complex business deliverables
  • Track record of successful leadership, management, and development of large, multi-disciplinary globally dispersed teams. Strong judge of talent with the ability to make tough talent decisions
  • Health care business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May require frequent overnight travel
