The District Sales Manager (DSM) is primarily responsible for leading, directing and managing activities of Sales Representatives within a specific geographical assignment (District). The primary focus of the District Sales Manager is to ensure that the activities of the professional Sales Representatives under his or her direction ethically and compliantly contribute to the achievement of the company s sales and profit objectives. This position is responsible for contributing to the revenue and profit goals within the assigned geography by ensuring sales goals are met and expenses are managed in a fiscally responsible manner. The role will lead meetings with their respective team and serves as the tactical manager within the field sales organization. The District Sales Manager sets performance expectations for day-to-day Representative activity, monitors achievement and provides developmental feedback.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Achieve all activity goals and sales objectives for District through leadership of 10-12 Hospital Sales Representatives.
  • Conduct field contacts and provide regular written and verbal feedback and direction to Hospital Sales Representatives.
  • Coach and counsel representatives to optimize territory performance.
  • Develop an expert knowledge of products, disease states, and competitors.
  • Ensure PDMA compliance and adherence to Company sampling policies.
  • Manage District expenses within allocated budget.
  • Participate or lead internal meetings to update progress and suggest positive solutions to specific issues and/or opportunities.
  • Participate in recruiting, staffing, hiring, and training of field sales team in partnership with vendor partner(s).
  • Develop a positive, inclusive culture in which representatives can develop and thrive while meeting sales objectives.
  • Successfully complete all corporate training requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree required.
  • Minimum 5-years sales experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical industry.
  • Minimum 2-years pharmaceutical sales management experience with documented leadership and measurable, sustained performance.
  • Antibiotic / Infectious Disease sales experience preferred.
  • Experience leading a team in an institutional or hospital setting preferred.
  • Ability to manage a district s vision and purpose that is consistent with corporate and business objectives.
  • Possess strong presentation, organization, administrative and communication skills.
  • Project professional and polished impression.
  • Model highest level of professional behavior and ethics.
  • Clearance on all pre-employment screening processes.
  • Valid driver s license.
Additional Information:
  • Technology: MS Office, VEEVA
  • Travel (%): Requires daily travel within district which could require some overnights dependent upon district size and structure. Outside of daily activities, yearly travel less than 10%.
