La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of innovative therapies intended to significantly improve outcomes in patients suffering from life-threatening diseases. The company has several product candidates in development including a first in class medication to address an unmet need in the critical care therapeutic space.
La Jolla plans to build a new commercial organization and launch its first commercial product which provides a clinically unmet need in a disease state with a current mortality rate upwards of 80%. The Critical Care Field Team will represent La Jolla Pharmaceuticals within targeted hospitals and with a focus primarily on the hospital ICU. In this field-based role, the Critical Care Specialist (CCS) will partner with internal Customer Care Organization members, field medical team and will collaborate with other CCS team members across the country to identify and establish best practices for providing patient access to La Jolla s lead product, LJPC-501, within a designated territory.
In this role you will:
- Identify, develop and execute a strategic territory business plan which focuses on appropriate utilization and appropriate patient identification for LJPC 501
- Engage formulary and administrative business partners within the hospital to pursue formulary acceptance/approval and appropriate usage of LJPC 501
- Maintain an open dialogue with key opinion leaders/ICU intensivists/nursing leaders/nursing colleagues/pharmacy colleagues and other health care personnel and communicates field issues, customer insights, changing practice patterns or personnel to internal La Jolla colleagues and leadership.
- Work cross functionally to identify customer needs. Collaborate and communicate effectively with medical field partners (MSL Field Team) and others within the geographic region to deliver coordinated, efficient and effective approved product and disease state education.
- Deliver disease state and approved product presentations to nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and other health care stakeholders in the hospital setting.
- Collaborate with both state and local nursing organizations
- Develop and maintain strong and long-term relationships with clinical personnel, nurse leadership, key nursing organizations and associations, patient advocacy personnel, ICU physicians, Critical Care Pharmacists, and other health care providers (collectively HCP ) within the institutions or geographic area served.
- Ensure approved product and disease state information is used in an appropriate and compliant manner.
- Identify and assist in development of nurse advocates and potential speakers.
- Develop and execute geographical based strategic and tactical plan that meets both HCP needs and company expectations focused on approved product and disease state education.
- Partner to develop and implement ongoing educational programs and critical care tools and educational content for the ICU team
- Perform all administrative functions of the position in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with all La Jolla policies and procedures.
- Deliver approved disease state education and directs appropriate questions to the Medical Information team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of Bachelor s Degree, RN or other clinical degree or experience preferred. CCRN certification a plus. ICU, ED or Emergency Response team experience preferred.
- Previous pharmaceutical experience is preferred. Will consider candidates with hospital experience in both clinical and business setting in lieu of pharmaceutical experience.
- Strong clinical expertise and ability to articulate and communicate complex information. Intensive care, Emergency care or Clinical response team experience preferred. Presentation skills and experience necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex clinical information and an ability to work in cross functional teams, collaborate, develop, implement, and execute strategic and tactical plans.
- Demonstrated understanding of hospital formulary process and requirements and ability to navigate a hospital system.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of FDA OIG, HIPPA regulations and approved guidelines for pharmaceutical promotion and adverse event/drug reaction reporting, medical education guidance and compliance policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, standard programs (Word, Excel and Power Point) and Outlook for email communication.
- Ability to travel up to 70% including some overnight and weekend commitments.
- Valid driver s license to drive to assigned healthcare accounts, unless otherwise specified.
