  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree (MD, DO, PhD, Pharm.D.) and/or equivalent required (relevant residency, HEOR Fellowship, Health Services Research); MS, MBA, or MPH is a plus
  • 5–8  years of pharmaceutical industry experience with at least 2-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience leading a Field Medical team
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the market access and payer landscape in the U.S. decision-making process, and an appreciation for the operational functioning of National/Regional payers, IDNs and/or ACOs

Serving as a field-based, internal extension of Medical Affairs, the Team Leader of Medical Science Liaisons, working with the Client Company, will collaborate to build, lead and manage a team of three (3) field-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to support the launch of an investigational, leading edge, technology driven therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer.  The Team Leader will be responsible for leading the establishment of the field MSL strategies and tactics, and ensure alignment with field Market Access leaders of National and Regional key payer-related accounts, including Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) to optimize access and reimbursement as well as life cycle management. 

 

The Team Leader will coach and mentor the MSLs to create a high performing team, while building a strong and trusting medical “partner of choice” approach to meet the needs of the Company’s external customers across the team and within their  own regionally defined territory.  Additionally, the Team Leader will assist in building the department-wide medical communication processes, policies and procedures and other infrastructure to support the team.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and lead the US Field MSL team, focused on National and Regional oncology thought leaders, priority payer-related accounts, including IDNs and ACOs
  • Collaborate to identify opportunities to work with and present to oncology thought leaders, payers, IDNs, GPOs, ACOs, academia, policy and advocacy groups and facilitate initiation of real-world evidence (RWE), based on unmet needs and research priorities, when appropriate
  • Partner and align with multi-disciplinary customer facing strategy teams, including Market Access Account Management, Medical, Marketing, Customer Experience and Field Sales, to meet needs of external customers and be the trusting medical “partner of choice”
  • Represent the Company at scientific and payer-related meetings/conferences to present medically relevant data when appropriate and scientific exchange with external stakeholders
  • Work closely with field Market Access leaders of National and Regional payer-related accounts to ensure alignment of strategies and tactics, in compliance with corporate policy
  • Ensure that the Field MSL team collaborates closely with the Commercial Analytics Team during the development of evidence and tools to support access and reimbursement as well as life-cycle management
  • Develop, oversee and coordinate medical strategy and tactics of the US Field MSL team across Company, as well as across accounts
  • Coach and mentor the US Field MSL team members to ensure flawless planning, execution and communication of evidence-based clinical, humanistic and economic value proposition, inclusive of economic models and budget impact models, of all future Company products and disease areas
  • Partner with Company Headquarters (HQ) based Global Medical Affairs teams to identify data gaps, communicate insights and act as a conduit to external healthcare professionals, thought leaders, payers and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate leadership in critical healthcare topics to facilitate strong scientific exchange with external customers and be a resource for the Field MSL team
  • Assist the HQ within Medical Affairs in the development of department-wide field based processes, collection of customer insights, training and communication
  • Oversee the development plans of each Field MSL team members to drive performance, foster continuous learning opportunities, and retain talent
  • Oversee the training of the Field MSL team to ensure adherence to company-wide policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree (MD, DO, PhD, Pharm.D.) and/or equivalent required (relevant residency, HEOR Fellowship, Health Services Research); MS, MBA, or MPH is a plus
  • 5–8  years of pharmaceutical industry experience with at least 2-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience leading a Field Medical team
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of the market access and payer landscape in the U.S. decision-making process, and an appreciation for the operational functioning of National/Regional payers, IDNs and/or ACOs
  • Record of high-impact engagement with thought leaders and interactions with national organizations, such as foundations and the payer / market access community is a plus
  • Therapeutic experience in Oncology desired
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills
  • Established track record of working in or developing, managing and leading high performing teams
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare trends impacting the healthcare industry, including quality of care, performance measures, healthcare reform, and value-based reimbursement initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • High degree of emotional intelligence with ability to connect with people and build strong cross-functional relationships, internally and externally
  • Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical industries’ regulatory and compliance requirements and uphold with ethics and integrity
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Applications
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Up to 65% travel
