CNE position based in San Francisco, CA


Serving as a field-based extension of Medical Affairs, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) will serve as a liaison between Healthcare Professional’s (HCPs) and commercial partners by providing medical education regarding the evolving management and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The CNE will support reactive and proactive educational awareness activities, in support of COPD and therapeutic class management, to ensure maximum awareness of the disease state and changing treatment paradigms.  The CNE will function as an extension of the Medical and Technical Information (MTI) department in order to respond to HCP inquiries for scientific information and data.


The CNE will be responsible for conducting their business in a specified territory with key HCPs who may be associated with medical group practices and other targeted accounts and will utilize clinical knowledge and effective communication skills in order to educate these pre-defined targeted health care professionals. 


  • Provide scientific support, at the request of Commercial, for internal and external activities where there is a defined scientific role for Field Based Medical (FBM).
  • Collaborates compliantly with commercial colleagues to support scientific exchange with community-based healthcare professionals.
  • Provide presentations to HCPs who may be associated with medical groups, community hospitals, and teaching hospitals, as well as other qualified medical venues, etc. as determined by Field Based Medical (FBM) leadership.
  • Addresses unsolicited medical requests from HCPs (MDs, NPs, PAs, nurses) using medically approved resources where appropriate, including verbal responses and referral to the Company medical affairs department.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Reports relevant competitive activity and scientific insights regularly to Field Based Medical management. 
  • Upon request: attends assigned scientific conferences, staffs non-promotional Medical Information booths, as well as contributes to the development of the conference report. 
  • Fully understands and complies with all Pharmacovigilance SOPs and FDA guidance for distribution of scientific materials and interactions with healthcare professionals.


  • Advanced clinical/science degree: Pharm.D., NP, PA or equivalent preferred
  • Prior healthcare industry experience (1-3 years) is required
  • Therapeutic expertise within Respiratory/COPD area is preferred 
  • Individuals should have experience working with health care practitioners. Direct experience in customer facing roles such as medical science liaison, health economic coordinator or similar role is preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication; strong presentation skills
  • Working knowledge and understanding of FDA and OIG guidelines 
  • Ability to critically evaluate the medical literature
  • Ability to work independently and to integrate / work in cross functional network of teams.
  • Ability to build productive work relationships both internally and externally
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Overnight travel (40-60% with potential for some overnight stays) including some weekend commitments
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
