The Digital Innovation and Transformation Lead for the Biologics Operating Unit (Bio OpU) works in partnership with the Head of the Bio OpU Business Excellence to develop and implement strategies and tactical plans across the Operating Unit.

  • Work with business partners to develop digital strategy
  • Align and lead the digital strategy execution across the Bio OpU
  • Solution development to enable real time/on demand reporting
  • Provides leadership on creation of Digital and Industry 4.0 capabilities
  • Aggregate and derive insights from a vast array of data sources
  • Develop predictive analytics to enable actionable insights to exploit opportunities
  • Collaborate across GMSGQ and broader organization to develop solutions and leverage best known methods


  • Bio OpU Data Science strategy and its implementation
  • Bio OpU detailed scale-up and delivery execution roadmap for data science:
    Reviews data science possibilities/initiatives/requests in collaboration with IT and GMSGQ business stakeholders. Advises on the respective prioritization for short and medium focus.
  • Overall responsibility for Bio OpU data science community.


Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Strong expertise and experience in Digital/Big Data Analytics/ Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning algorithms, respective programming knowledge
  • Capabilities to translate business needs into data analytics concepts and the reverse
  • Hands-on, able to implement and execute data science initiatives, analysis, machine learning
  • Project management and leadership skills


  • A firm grasp of industry, scientific and digital, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science trends and market conditions, to develop solutions enhance compliance and quality of life for patients
  • Ability to distill complex issues and ideas down to simple comprehensible terms
  • Embraces and demonstrates a diversity and inclusion mindset and role models these behaviors for the organization

Decision-making and Autonomy

  • Full accountability for decisions on the day to day operation of Digital Innovation and Transformation for Bio OpU
  • Decisions are complex, covering all data science levels and technologies


  • Clear partnership with Data Science and IT is required to ensure alignment for data science processes

  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward innovative solutions
  • Translate data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning trends and technologie into execution

  • Ability to interface with international stakeholders and to connect internal and
    external data analytics experts of both academia and industries high change management complexity
  • Capabilities to translate business needs into data analytics concepts and the other way
  • Hands-on, able to implement and execute initiatives


Education / Experience:

  • B.S. degree in a Technical Discipline
  • 10+ years relevant pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Strong external network in innovative digital technologies (e.g. innovators in academia and startups)

Digital & Data Science Skills:

  • Strong expertise and experience in Digital/Big Data Analytics/ Artificial Intelligence/Machine
  • Proven track record and expertise in defining and implementing digital strategies across the value chain (Industry 4.0/IoT)

Travel required up to 20% (domestic and international)
