The main responsibility of this position is the support, implementation and evaluation of optimal and cost-effective technologies related to the efficient operations of the packaging lines in the Round Lake site. This role will also be involved in the life cycle management of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components. The candidate will assess, develop, design, specify, test and implement packaging projects at the Round Lake site. The candidate will also be responsible for managing the capital portfolio for the Round Lake site by ensuring projects are executed according to engineering and project management requirements.

Packaging Engineer responsibilities

Execute the introduction of new packaging equipment, components and technologies.

  • Characterizing primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components
  • Authoring and executing user requirement specification, technical and validation protocols
  • Write develop and approval packaging specification to support GMP packaging and labeling activities
  • Support Track and Trace solutions at the site.

Execute identification and implementation of projects to improve quality and/or efficiency of commercial packaging.

  • Provide technical support to quality, manufacturing, suppliers relations management
  • Execute various duties to support departments on change requests, Non-conformance/CAPA, and operational improvement programs.
  • Troubleshooting of components and equipment issues to resolve packaging complaints.

Site capital lead responsibilities:

  • Drive project identification, scoping, prioritization, reviewing, tracking and reporting
  • Develop, clarify and manage the scope of the project, define contract deliverables and achieve targeted outcomes
  • Contribute to the design, development or enhancement of new projects
  • Create the request for budget (CPA) and justify the project to senior management.
  • Responsible for the utilization of all quality systems as defined by Takeda Procedures within the project organization
  • Execute projects according to the project management standards

Qualifications:

  • Must have proficient computer skills and be experienced using MS Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and MS Project.
  • Must have ability to author user and technical specification, technical protocols and reports.
  • Familiarity with Biotechnology manufacturing operations such as aseptic filling, packaging and their support systems such as CIP, SIP, HVAC, plant and clean utilities, is a plus.
  • Must be organized and detail focused.
  • Must have financial and business acumen.
  • Familiarity with project management principles is a plus.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team-based environment.
  • Must know how to effectively run projects, coordinate contractors, and direct the activities of technicians. Must have the ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews
  • Must have good verbal/written communication skills, including creation and presentation of project proposals to senior management.

Education/ Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering (preferably in Packaging, Mechanical, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering).
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering roles with a concentration in packaging
  • Must be able to, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility
  • Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions.
  • Must not be allergic to Cephalosporin and related products.
