The selected candidate will be responsible for materials related functions in support of the Thousand Oaks manufacturing operations. Areas of focus include: Raw Materials Availability, Inventory Accuracy, Usage and Planning, Item Master integrity, Forecast Accuracy, Maintaining integrity of the MRP system and associated process, Departmental Training and Compliance to cGMP, FDA, OSHA, and MSDS standards and company SOPs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs the material planning and material logistic functions to meet the facility plan objectives and satisfy both internal and external customer needs.
  • Plans, initiates, and maintains a material procurement process that establishes and achieves best quality and timely delivery for facility.
  • Manage inventory and record accuracy through monitoring shortage/surplus exception, supplier material delivery, and established inventory stocking levels.
  • Disposition of obsolete and defective materials and equipment.
  • Identify implements and track material VIP projects.
  • Train and assist others in use of MRP systems
  • Determine and update raw material standard cost during budgeting cycle.
  • Direct supervision of Material Planner/Buyers
  • Benchmark Material Planning operations with other plants.
  • Provide leadership, development and support for Material Planner/Buyers
  • Work with senior leaders in the establishment and implementation of long-term growth strategies and execution of tactical initiatives.
  • Planning and/or supporting product launches in new countries (geographic expansion)
  • Planning and/or supporting product enhancements e.g. new potencies, new reconstitution devices, etc. (improve market competitiveness)
  • Supporting the production scheduling for clinical products Identify, map and document the key Material and product flows required to effectively plan Takeda s recombinant products.
  • Support the collection, analysis and reporting of key business metrics, as well as lead and/or support initiatives to improve performance Identify and lead continuous improvement projects within the Supply Chain department.
  • Reconcile and maintain code level inventory to meet business needs.
  • Requires close cooperation with a variety of manufacturing facilities and departments at all levels, including Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Procurement and Finance to identify and resolve excess, slow move and obsolete inventory issues.
  • May be required to perform other Material Planning related duties as assigned.


  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong knowledge/experience using project management methodology together with strong leadership qualities is essential.
  • Must possess a firm conceptual and practical understanding of Supply Chain Operations, with emphasis on material management, inventory controls and product flow.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Creativity is a must, as well as the ability to work well with and motivate others.
  • Computer skills and systems knowledge required including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Must have the following personal attributes: integrity and trust, work ethic, sound judgment, intellectual honesty, pragmatism, courage and conviction.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor s Degree required; Operations/Supply Chain or similar degree preferred
  • 5 - 7 years in Materials Management and Operations experience required.
  • APICS or equivalent certification preferred

Working Environment

  • Normal office environment.
  • May be required to travel for business reasons, e.g. training and meetings.
  • May be around moving equipment and machinery in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
  • Inside working conditions.

Physical Demand

  • No special physical demands
  • Mainly office, computer, phone work and meetings.
