As a Gastrointestinal (GI) Lead, USBU Communications working on the USBU Communications team, you will be empowered to partner with the commercial business units to develop a product PR strategy for Takeda s U.S. products and working with USBU leaders on management of global brands with a U.S. presence, and a typical day will include:


The GI Lead focuses on partnering with the commercial business units to develop a product PR strategy for Takeda s U.S. products and working with USBU leaders on management of global brands with a U.S. presence. This includes creating and executing corresponding communication plans comprised of executive, product, disease awareness, internal, external and digital tactics.


  • Partner with the US GI franchise leadership to develop and implement external and internal communications plans, campaigns and messaging to help protect, enhance and, in some cases, build Takeda s reputation as a leader in key therapeutic categories. (25%)
  • Partner with franchise leadership/commercial teams to develop and implement communication/PR plans to support the performance optimization of key products, which would include effectively managing product milestones such as launches and data dissemination. (35%)
  • Provide strong project management/leadership, including effectively leading and guiding retained communications/public relations firms, on key communications activities and initiatives, ensuring they are completed on time with a high level of quality, in accordance with Medical, Legal and Regulatory requirements. (15%)
  • Work effectively with the U.S. and PVPS teams to ensure consistent strategic and tactical implementation of global communication programs and initiatives across the US. Provide leadership and/or support on projects as needed. (15%)
  • Anticipate and effectively manage issues impacting Takeda s brands in therapeutic areas of focus. Serve as media relations spokesperson on the issues. (10%)
  • Oversee public relations budget for multiple products.


  • Bachelor s degree BS/BA Majors in Journalism, Communications or public policy/public affairs preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience required at a corporation or consultancy with expertise in corporate, product, executive or international communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with social media strongly desired.
  • Ability to lead a team important.
  • Strategic planning and results oriented execution needed.
  • Ability to negotiate and form consensus among various parties important.

  • Ability to build strong partnerships and drive role clarity with other interfacing Takeda functions, including but not limited to PVPS, Sales, Marketing, Managed Markets, Finance, IT, Procurement, HR, Legal/Compliance, Medical Affairs, Communications, Public Affairs, external vendors, and others.
