As a Research Principal Scientist, you will be empowered to build high throughput, state of art Protein Analytics technology platforms and lead developability assessment studies . A typical day will include:

OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

  • Organizational and strategic leadership to build a Global Biologics Protein Analytics sub team with strong focus in protein-protein interaction and binding kinetics

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Build high throughput, state of art Protein Analytics technology platforms to support analytical characterization of lead candidates with diverse and novel modalities including bispecifics, protein fusions, drug conjugates, cell therapies, and gene therapies
  • Devise and implement both protein analytics and biologics discovery strategies as co-lead for discovery stage programs spanning multiple therapeutic areas including I/O-Oncology, GI/Immunology, CNS and Rare Disease
  • Lead developability assessment studies and coordinate Research to Development transition (R2D) of candidates
  • Establish and run high throughput Biologics interaction binding kinetics workflow to support large number of diverse programs
  • Enable intricate kinetics analysis to support MOA studies, IND filings, external assets evaluations and therapeutic candidate selection
  • Play crucial role in devising analytical strategy of the programs and implement stage appropriate analytical methods for progress of programs in discovery through early development
  • Effective collaboration with multiple teams from discovery and development organization to accelerate programs to IND

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

  • Functional area leader with strong expertise in biologics characterization including deep understanding of binding kinetics using SPR and other orthogonal methods
  • Establish and run high throughput Biologics interaction binding kinetics workflow to support large number of diverse programs
  • Desirable: deep expertise in wide range of biophysical and analytical methods including
    • UPLC/HPLC based methods: SEC, RP, HIC, IEX
    • Light scattering: DLS and MALS
    • Thermal stability
    • Stress studies
    • Formulation screen
  • Program leadership: Engage in both biologics lead and protein analytics lead roles to drive strategy of global biologics programs
  • People leadership: Manage and mentor a team of scientists in fast paced matrix environment and groom them to be future leaders
  • Independently manages workload and expectations
  • Scientifically independent
  • Scientific driver for research strategy that impacts group internally and outside area of function
  • Initiates and leads external interactions and collaborations
  • Frequent contact with internal and external personnel at various management levels
  • Collaborates with other departments, and disciplines, acting as scientific authority within
    discipline
  • Serves as senior company / project representative at external conferences, or business meetings

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 8+ years experience , or
  • MS with 12+ years experience, or
  • BS with 14+ years experience
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in hands on analytical characterization of biologics is required
  • Project and people management experience is desired
  • Functional area leader with strong expertise in biologics characterization including deep understanding of binding kinetics using SPR and other orthogonal methods
  • Desirable: deep expertise in wide range of biophysical and analytical methods including
    • UPLC/HPLC based methods, cg., SEC, RP, HIC, IEX
    • Light scattering: DLS and MALS
    • Thermal stability
    • Stress studies
    • Formulation screen
  • Effective project and resource management skills in matrix organization
  • Building new capabilities to broaden scope and capacity of Protein analytics workflow
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to present data and strategy across Takeda network involving multiple sites and disease areas
