As an Area Vice-President, National Accounts working on the Managed Markets team, you will be empowered to develop and execute a value-based contracting strategy inclusive of cross functional partners and a typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Lead, manage and provide oversight of all Takeda s US managed markets account management activity, including all commercial and government business.
  • Direct oversee Managed Markets leadership team of 4 National Account Directors, 1 Director of Regional Accounts and 1 Director of Value Based Contracting and Operations with Portfolio value of over $3B of Takeda revenue.
  • Create and implement a strategy to enhance the capabilities of the Managed Market team to transition from a primarily transactional role to a best in class partnership approach.
  • Responsible for leading the Value Based Contracting (VBC) strategy development and execution across the organization; leading cross functional efforts with Brand Leads, Medical and HEOR.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Lead development of intimate, B2B customer relationships

  • Set expectations for levels of relationships for different account types, and hold Corporate Account Directors, National Account Directors and the Head of Account Management accountable for establishing those relationships.
  • Oversee all activities related to account management, product access, discount strategy, marketing and sales of Takeda products across strategic corporate accounts.
  • Attend key industry seminars to establish personal contact and relationships with key executives in the top managed care organizations; stay abreast of changing trends within managed markets.

Lead a cross-functional team

  • Select, train, develop, and direct qualified personnel for the National Account Directors and Director Regional Accounts positions.
  • Establish individual performance objectives for National Account Directors and Director Regional Accounts; responsible for performance management process and feedback on performance to all direct reports.
  • Build relationships across Takeda s functions (marketing, sales, operations etc.) to continuously improve Takeda s account offerings and resources.
  • Accountable for the establishment and administration of budgets; approve T&E expenses and promotional disbursement requests to ensure that department expenses are within guidelines.

Lead development of innovative programs at accounts; support team in contracting

  • Partner with Brand and Payer Marketing, Medical Affairs, Sales and Contracts & Pricing in launching new products and innovative initiatives within the Commercial Organization.
  • Oversee the creation of robust VBC strategy and structure for Takeda s U.S. Portfolio.
  • Provide high-level leadership in the guidance and direction for National Account Directors and Director Regional Accounts in the areas of contract negotiations, discount management, customer relationships and account management.
  • Make recommendations to Contracting, Pricing and Legal groups regarding guidelines, contract terms, and pricing; ensure all purchasing arrangements are within legal requirements and contribute to Takeda business objectives.

Lead sales pull-through efforts

  • Work across key stakeholders to ensure pull-through on contracts and to serve as a catalyst to developing successful tactics that are applicable to corporate accounts.
  • Develop strategic recommendations for the development and implementation of the managed markets sales force effectiveness and capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships though develop and establish strategic account assignments and market boundaries for National Account Directors and Regional Directors, Managed Markets to provide optimal coverage of national corporate customers.
  • Attend key industry seminars to establish personal contact and relationships with key executives in the top managed care organizations; stay abreast of changing trends within managed markets.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor s Degree required, MBA preferred
  • Twelve (12) + years of pharmaceutical sales experience required with understanding the medical/therapeutic usage of the products and strategic objectives of the pharmaceutical sales marketplace and various effective selling techniques
  • Seven (7) + years of sales management, contracting, national and/or regional account experience with a minimum three (3) + years of people management experience
  • Understanding the pharmaceutical industry and the prescription drug distribution process in a large healthcare organization or prescription drug vendor
  • Government Regulations understands regulatory issues regarding the distribution of products to governmental agencies.
  • Managed Care Channel Knowledge understands the current issues impacting managed care organizations at national and local levels
  • Supply Chain Knowledge understands the distribution processes within the supply chain in a pharmaceutical context
  • Legal Systems understands the laws and regulations affecting the pharmaceutical industry
  • Communication ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner
  • Ability to understand and implement the overall governmental sales strategy
  • Ability to analyze a wide variety of data including sales, financial figures and market data to make business decisions
  • Ability to set priorities and develop workflow processes
  • Ability to explore positions and alternatives to reach beneficial outcomes for all parties involved
  • Ability to apply a planning and management process to identify and administer effective strategies and tactics with national accounts

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 30% travel with some overnight travel required.
