  • As a member of the global GI discovery Operations this position will be accountable for the management of external alliances of both industry partners and academic alliances.
  • Primary focus is supporting externalized components of the discovery research portfolio. Accountable for management of all processes engaging external partners; from initial assessment triage, to full due diligence, to contracting, and subsequent long term alliance relationships.
  • Day to day deliverables include tracking, facilitating, problem solving, and managing multiple external interactions of the GI DDU and connecting to key internal stakeholders in Finance, Legal, Scientific Teams, and Centre of External Innovation which provides the funding.
  • The successful candidate will play a critical role in all aspects of GI DDU success. In addition, GI partner alliances (internal and externally) and be a key collaborator for the scientific and project management in GI DDU.


  • Own the alliance management process for major industrial partnerships and R&D collaborations with academic partners, including partnership launch, management of governance, and managing R&D activities in collaboration with partners:
  • Manage Business Development (BD) process from initial contact to Governance approval in collaboration with GI DDU Portfolio Leaders

    • Manages all external portfolio opportunity triage and prioritization in partnership with DDU leadership and CEI
    • Develop and maintain cross-functional program plans, budgets and timelines that are integrated with stage-gate activities and executive reviews throughout BD process
    • Coordinate cross-functional meetings, create and distribute meeting agendas and minutes, drive completion of action items for multiple internal and externally facing GI DDU initiatives.
    • Track progress against project plans and ensure project teams and other stakeholders have the tools necessary to deliver a timely implementation. Drive completion of action items
    • Manage the GI DDU workflow, ensuring that deliverables are provided on schedule.
  • Accountable for External Collaboration budget accuracy and forecast
  • Optimize and implement process and tools for alliance management. Recommend modifications to support evolving needs of the group.
  • Prepare program-related presentations and dashboards and present to GI DDU leadership team to ensure Portfolio Leaders understand priorities
  • In collaboration with R&D finance, lead financial planning and analysis for the portfolio of GI DDU external alliances.
  • Act as a key facilitator to initiate new internal and external GI-DDU projects from an operational and administrative perspective.
  • Responsible for the development, delivery, and oversight of business specific contracting agreements. Will work closely with Legal, Business Development, IP, Strategic Outsourcing, other internal stakeholders as well as vendors.
  • Liaise cross-functionally (Legal, Finance, Sourcing, HR, and across all scientific functions as necessary) to support execution of GI DDU programs and business: independently identify and resolve issues limiting scientific execution.
  • Work with GI DDU Portfolio Leaders to deliver high quality Governance submissions for new proposed BD partnerships as a core KPI deliverable for the DDU function


  • 5+ years experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry with experience of Alliance management process in drug discovery & development from either Industry or Academic institution
  • Bachelor s in Science or Engineering related discipline (Advanced degree MBA preferred) to aid understanding of the research process
  • The person in this role must be proactive, resourceful, self-motivated and should have excellent attention to detail and following process.
  • Has experience working through matrix team models and demonstrated ability to act independently through complex cross-functional matrices and international sites.
  • Accurate and precise communication skills are necessary with experience managing complex partnerships with multiple international contributors
  • Excellent general problem solving and project management skills and a proven ability to manage multiple projects and to simplify and organize complex tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required
  • Project management experience in biopharma/healthcare or healthcare related consulting desirable.
