Job Description

We are looking for an experienced individual with a strong background in histology who is highly motivated and passionate for driving scientific growth in the laboratory by developing additional assays in collaboration with a dynamic team of investigative toxicologists and pathologists as part of nonclinical safety assessment of new drug candidates.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with necropsy, tissue trimming, histology and development of new protocols in immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, digital microscopy, ability to independently troubleshoot and solve technical problems, work in a highly collaborative environment, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Job Description

  • Primary responsibility includes performing routine histologic processing of formalin-fixed tissues from rodent toxicity studies.

  • Work on development, optimization, and validation of new assays in immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization.

  • Desirable attributes include experience performing frozen samples and execution of existing biomarker assays (mesoscale and Luminex platforms), tissue microarrays and image analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform rodent necropsy, develop multi-chamber cassette system for mini-tox studies, develop techniques for special tissue collection on a protocol dependent basis

  • Perform basic histology procedures (trimming, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping)

  • Perform routine H&E staining and special histochemical staining.

  • Perform routine scanning of stained slides with the Aperio ScanScope, manage slide database.

  • Development, optimization, and validation of new assays in immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization.

  • Opportunity to develop a strategy for generating traditional biomarkers based on the mesoscale platform and additional tissue-image based technologies including generation of tissue microarrays and image analysis.

  • Maintain proper documentation, archiving and routine quality control on all generated specimens and data.

  • Maintain DSRE paraffin block and glass slide archive, includes evaluating new tracking system software

  • Maintain adequate stock and efficient use of supplies necessary for performing all procedures, and preparation of reagents as required.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and assists with identification and execution of process improvement.

  • Ensure and maintain molecular safe integrity and quality of the specimens.


  • PhD and Post Doc experience, or BS with 7+years of experience MS with 9+ years of experience in a Biological Science or life science.

  • Strong background in IHC/ISH techniques.

  • ASCP histotechnologist certification (or equivalent) is desirable, but not required
