As the Lead, Thought Leader Liaisons working on the Specialty Marketing team, you will be empowered to develop, influence, and implement strategy related to Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and a typical day will include:


  • Leading a field based marketing team focused on top thought leaders in IBD and contracted speakers
  • Active participation in the development of strategic & tactical plans, and execution of those plans to meet or exceed organizational goals specifically related to Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement
  • Responsible for cross-functional alignment of KOL engagement across Marketing, Medical, Managed Markets, Field Reimbursement and Key Account Management/Sales teams to ensure a One Takeda approach


  • The Leader will work cross functionally and align with the overall Key Opinion Leader strategy, creating the Thought Leader Liaison (TLL) strategy, in conjunction with Medical and other key contributors
  • Lead the Thought Leader Liaison team in identifying, profiling, developing and maintaining long-term relationships with Thought Leaders through the execution of strategic and tactical engagement plans
  • Develop processes, systems and tools to enable KOL engagement planning, progress tracking and ensure cross-functional alignment
  • Lead the TLL team in building advocacy with national thought leaders, HCP organizations and patient advocacy groups
  • Establish credibility as an internal thought leader on strategic and business issues with accountability for ensuring the consistent messaging to our KOLs
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing and field leadership to optimize speaker bureau membership and performance to ensure market needs are met
  • In coordination with internal partners, oversee congress and convention thought leader engagement plans
  • Lead the collection and dissemination of key thought leader insights to help shape and inform key strategic and tactical marketing programs
  • Communicate and collaborate openly and consistently with internal partners/stakeholders: (Sales, Marketing, Competitive Intelligence, Medical, Managed Care, etc.) to ensure an aligned approach to KOL/speaker engagement
  • Build work force plan that identifies current and future need resource planning and includes hiring training & development of TLL team, with P&L responsibility


  • Bachelor s degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred and minimum 8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience in IBD or specialty biologics preferred
  • 4 years of experience calling on Key Opinion Leaders and ability to comfortably liaise with physician thought leaders with a demonstrated track record of building advocacy
  • Experience as a Thought Leader Liaison and/or leading Though Leader Liaisons is preferred
  • 3 years of experience leading, coaching and developing field teams with the ability to translate strategic vision into a plan, identifying the highest impact ideas and plans while appropriately allocating resources
  • Must be able to perform in fast paced environments, exhibit leadership skills, and be able to influence without authority
  • Must be a self-starter who can function independently or within a team and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills required


  • Requires approximately 60-80% travel
  • Willingness to travel to various meetings, conferences that likely include nights and overnights. Some weekend travel may be required
