As a Senior Director, Global Commercial New Product Leader, GI working on the Global Commercial team, you will be empowered to partner with R&D on discovery targets and serve as the subject matter expert for Business Development assessments.


  • Execute an integrated commercial disease area strategy for the GI Therapeutic Area, defining where to play and how to win to inform resource allocation decisions by working with the Therapeutic Area Commercial Head, R&D, Global Regulatory, Global Business Development and Local Operating Companies (LOC)
  • Partner with R&D identify and assess commercial attractiveness of new potential discovery targets, in-licensing and acquisition opportunities
  • Provide global commercial leadership across GI Therapeutic Area for Takeda s pipeline assets from Discovery to initiation of Global Commercial Brand Team


  • Provide commercial strategic leadership and serve as the point of contact with Takeda s Pharmaceutical R&D Division from Discovery to initiation of Global Commercial Brand Team, including:
    • Representing commercial interests on the Global Program Team (GPT) for early development compounds
    • Evaluate and quantify associated markets and indications and their possible growth rates
    • Determine commercial assumptions for valuation of development strategies provided by Takeda Clinical Development and critically assess data sets with objective, well-trained eyes to quality of pre-clinical and clinical data
    • Generate strategic options for pipeline compounds
    • Ensure consistent and robust commercial guidance and assumptions across the GI Therapeutic Area
    • Partner with Market Research, Forecasting and Analytics, and Competitive Intelligence, R&D and IP to develop and maintain a Competitive Landscape Assessment
  • Provide commercial strategic leadership for the evaluation of external asset licensing/acquisition deals as part of Business Development cross-functional due diligence teams
    • Meeting with executive leadership at possible partnership companies (scientific, business regulatory and legal/IP and other relevant functions)
    • Evaluating the science, through partnering with R&D and BD to determine revenue potential and commercial opportunities/challenges on possible acquisitions, especially in pre-clinical, Phase I and Phase II stages
  • Lead all commercial components of an Integrated Therapeutic Area Asset Plan, including quantification/sizing of opportunities, assessment of strategic drivers, evaluation of risks
  • Monitor ongoing changes in Therapeutic Area category, assess impact of potential changes, and lead yearly environmental assessments to identify key factors that will inform Takeda s Therapeutic Area Strategy and Takeda s resource allocation plans
  • Support the execution of long term above-brand commercial strategies and planning that will positively affect the value of Takeda s pipeline
  • Work closely with LOCs to ensure that the country voice and feedback is integrated into all post-Phase 2b assessments
  • Provide therapeutic area subject matter expertise to Commercial and Marketing Excellence on white space commercial assessments as needed


  • A University degree in business administration or science; advanced graduate degree (PhD or MBA) preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years experience in the global pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry, accompanied by experience in commercial strategy with knowledge of drug development process preferred
  • Global experience from either living and working/studying outside your home country or working experience with global responsibility/exposure
  • Ability to work effectively in a multinational, cross functional matrix organization
  • Ability to closely partner with R&D and synthesize complex scientific, clinical, pre-clinical data
  • Ability to distil qualitative/quantitative market research information into critical customer driven insights and develop innovative commercial Disease Area Strategies
  • Ability to build strong cross functional partnerships and external customer relationships
  • Ability to flawlessly execute an ability to bring strategy and analysis to a practical level, initiate projects and drive to completion
  • Ability to rebalance priorities on a regular basis and assume responsibility in a multi-tasking in resource-constrained environment
  • Ability to think critically and strategically combined with strong analytical skills and a creative and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Prior experience in working in gastrointestinal therapeutic area preferred but not mandatory


  • Some traveling on a global basis is expected (~10-20%)
