Takeda Pharmaceuticals

US-CA, Intern - GI Biology (San Diego, CA) 1702817-MZ

Are you looking for a patient-focused company that will inspire you and support your career? If so, be empowered to take charge of your future at Takeda. Join us as a GI Biology Intern in our San Diego office. Here, everyone matters and you will be a vital contributor to our inspiring, bold mission.

This intern will assist activities in the GI Biology group specifically in the Liver Team and also in the Functional Validation Team

Duties in functional validation team:
Lab duties will include assisting with cell and molecular in vitro work (Cell culture, qPCR, etc) as well routine assays (ELISA, MSD, etc). Other non-routine assays might be necessary and will be added to the workload as needed. In addition, the intern will assist in ex vivo tissue assays (organ bath, Ussing chamber, etc). The student will have the opportunity to present their work at group and project meetings.
The teams are currently running at full capacity. The goal is to develop the intern as an effective and efficient laboratory technician that will help increase throughput and quality of the group. This will also allow more time for senior team members to analyze data, design new experiments, and maintain their electronic notebooks.

Training plan:
The intern will start off in a laboratory assistant role (preparing buffers/reagents, assisting protocols) under the close supervision of the laboratory personnel. The intern will then be trained on multiple techniques (qPCR, ELISA, cell culture, WB, etc) with the goal of an increasingly independent role. New techniques and autonomy will be introduced as appropriate to the intern s level as determined by both the supervising managers and the supervising lab personnel. Advanced training will include data analysis and preparation of data for presentation as well as opportunities to present their own data in group meetings.
Laboratory Atmosphere:
We seek to create a fast-paced, friendly atmosphere that emphasizes scientific rigor with a strong team dynamic. The internship will provide a student with an opportunity to expand their skill set in the biological lab sciences, ownership of a particular lab function or subproject within the group, and exposure to the pharma industry.
