OBJECTIVES:
DMPK has undertaken a global initiative to retrospectively assess human pharmacokinetic prediction, based on compounds which have made it into the clinic. DMPK also wants to assess all new advances in PK prediction to update its best practices in hopes of increasing its ability to provide better predictions of compounds reaching the candidate stage. To assist in this initiative, the summer intern will collate all available data (IB, IND, and preclinical and clinical data), digitize plasma concentration profiles, assemble data in a useable form, and learn aspects of pharmacokinetic and physiological-based PK prediction.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing with a focus in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, or a related biological or chemical science field (Second or Third year students preferred)
  • Ideal candidate should have an excellent academic record and hands-on laboratory work experience
  • Some understanding of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of compounds in the human body
  • Ideal candidate will have good organizational skills, good working knowledge of Excel, and have taken some more advanced mathematics courses and some calculus
  • Ability to learn how to use digitizing software to translate plasma concentration profiles to exposure and time values. Good written and communications skills are a must to become a part of a global, high functioning team. Knowledge in the Japanese language is a benefit.
  • Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Expected hours: 10 - 20 hours while school is in session; up to 40 hours during school breaks
