OBJECTIVES:

This position is responsible for partnering with key stakeholders on cross-therapeutic area innovation initiatives aimed at improving global project team (GPT) operational effectiveness, and serve as a consultant to general R&D initiatives to improve operational effectiveness:

  • Partner with DDUs, TAUs and Business Units, specifically with GPT members and TA portfolio leads, to develop, optimize, and sustain GPT-related operational effectiveness activities, including GPT-x
  • Benchmarks internally among the GPTs, along with the PM Center of Operational Performance (CO-OP), to identify and harmonize best-practices
  • Benchmarks externally among R&D organizations to identify new initiatives to consider for implementation in order to improve team performance
  • Responsible for elements of change management initiatives, such as R&D Transformation and the Accelerate Change Together (ACT) process that impact GPT effectiveness.
  • Identifies gaps in capabilities that impact GPT effectiveness, and support actions to find real solutions
  • Partners closely with all groups within Portfolio Strategy and Project Team Innovation so that the group s operations are harmonized and optimized.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for optimizing and sustaining the external-engagement activities of GPTs (GPT-x) by leading training sessions, engaging directly with the GPTs, and interfacing with the TA and Function leadership
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams that manage ACT sessions or other change management initiatives designed to improve GPT operational effectiveness
  • Leads implementation activities of GPT Matrix ACT actions on decisions approved
  • Leads discreet elements of R&D process improvement, for example collaborating on and implementing integrated development plans, GPT-related elements of metrics tracking, and communicating progress of assets/ programs in the pipeline.
  • Leads discreet elements of R&D Transformation, in close collaboration with the Transformation Office, that impact GPT operational effectiveness
  • Serves as a liaison and build and maintain relationships with regional leadership (e.g., Japan) and external partners relevant to GPT operational effectiveness
  • Provides mentorship to GPT members and leaders as needed to support the objectives identified above.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelors required; Advanced science degree (PharmD, PhD, MD) preferred
  • Experience interacting with different functions/divisions within Takeda including Japan, U.S. and Europe.
  • Experience directing and managing multi-disciplinary groups, including senior leadership members, to accomplish goals.
  • Proven experience interacting within a broad and diverse team, and distributing leadership among members of that team
  • Ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and written in a persuasive and appropriate manner in multi-cultural environment.
  • Analytical Skills ability to analyze a wide variety of data, including financial figures to make decisions.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry Acumen ability to inform and implement business solutions based on trends, opportunities, needs and market direction within pharmaceutical industry and health care environment.
  • Must be passionate about drug development, and demonstrate intense focus on the development of our cross-TA pipeline.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.).
  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time while travelling.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.
  • Requires approximately 10% travel, likely overseas
