  • Provide global commercial leadership across GI Therapeutic Area for Takeda s pipeline assets from Discovery to initiation of Global Commercial Brand Team
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Business Development assessments
  • Partner with R&D to identify and assess commercial attractiveness of new potential discovery targets
  • Work with TACL, R&D to develop and execute an integrated commercial disease area strategy for the GI Therapeutic Area that will define where to play and how to win to inform resource allocation decisions. This person will be central to articulating and executing on the global commercial vision for the GI therapeutic area.


  • Provide commercial strategic leadership and serve as the point of contact with Takeda s Pharmaceutical Research Division and Takeda Development Corporation pipeline compounds from Discovery to initiation of Global Commercial Brand Team, including:
    • Represent commercial interests on GPTs for early development compounds.
    • Evaluate and quantify associated markets and indications and their possible growth rates.
    • Generate strategic options for pipeline compounds
    • Determine commercial assumptions for valuation of development strategies provided by Takeda Clinical Development and critically assess data sets with objective, well-trained eye to quality of pre-clinical and clinical data
    • Ensure consistent and robust commercial guidance and assumptions across the Gastrointestinal Therapeutic Area
    • Partner with Market Research, Forecasting and Analytics, and Competitive Intelligence, R&D and IP to develop and maintain a Competitive Landscape Assessment
  • Provide commercial strategic leadership for the evaluation of external asset licensing/acquisition deals as part of Business Development cross-functional due diligence teams. This will include meeting with executive leadership at possible partnership companies (scientific, business regulatory and legal/IP, CMC functions), and evaluating the science, through partnering with R&D, CAEO and BD to determine revenue potential and commercial opportunities/challenges on possible acquisitions, especially in pre clinical, Phase I and Phase II stages.
  • Proactively partner with all appropriate stakeholders across Takeda Divisions (e.g. R&D, Global Commercial, GLBD, etc) to develop, refine and implement the Commercial GI Therapeutic Area Strategy
  • Lead all commercial components of an Integrated Therapeutic Area Strategy Plan, including quantification/sizing of opportunities, assessment of strategic drivers, evaluation of risks.
  • Monitor ongoing changes in TA category, assess impact of potential changes, and lead yearly environmental assessments to identify key factors that will inform Takeda s Therapeutic Area Strategy and Takeda s resource allocation plans
  • Support the execution of long term above-brand commercial strategies and planning that will positively affect the value of Takeda s pipeline
  • Work closely with Local Operating Companies (LOCs) to ensure that the country voice and feedback is integrated into all post-Phase 2b assessments
  • Provide therapeutic area subject matter expertise and interpretation of pre-clinical/clinical data results or possible outcomes to Business Development-Commercial Assessments as needed
  • Provide therapeutic area subject matter expertise to Commercial and Marketing Excellence on white space commercial assessments as needed



  • 10+ years experience in the global pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry
  • A University degree in business administration or science; advanced graduate degree (PhD or MBA) preferred
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, strong analytical skills, creativity and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and external customer relationships
  • Ability to synthesize complex scientific, clinical, pre clinical data and qual/quant market research information and distil critical customer driven insights to develop innovative commercial Disease Area Strategies
  • Demonstrated ability for flawless execution an ability to bring strategy and analysis to a practical level, initiate projects and drive to completion
  • Ability to rebalance priorities on a regular basis and assume responsibility in a multi-tasking in resource-constrained environment
  • Enthusiastic, confident and able to work independently
  • Prior experience in commercial strategy with knowledge of drug development process preferred
  • Prior experience in working in gastrointestinal therapeutic area preferred but not mandatory
  • Ability to closely partner with R&D
  • Evidence of cross-cultural work successes

  • Some traveling on a global basis is expected (~10-15%)
