The Oncology Sr. Clinical Evaluation director conducts the clinical and scientific evaluation, as well as the development of clinical development plan, for oncology projects in the internal Novartis pipeline (for potential transition into late stage development), as well as evaluation of external oncology assets for partnering or M&A purposes across divisions (NIBR, OBU, Sandoz)
Proactively leads in working with corresponding oncology disease area strategy (DAS) teams to identify pipeline gaps and unmet need in respective disease are-as
Partners with discovery, clinical development, commercial, and business development teams to align activities and priorities
Provide a high quality scientific and clinical evaluation of oncology assets.
With guidance, generate a clinical development plan with timelines for opportunities of interest
Engage with internal subject matter experts for their input and integrate their feedback for senior management review and approval of clinical strategy
Work with business development, finance, and legal colleagues to support potential deals through the internal approval process until the transaction is executed
Represent Novartis and make presentations to potential partners at scientific conferences, external partnering, and other relevant meetings

MD PhD (preferred background)
MD required. with no PhD, candidate would need to have significant laboratory research experience
PhD with no MD would need to have significant clinical development experience
5 years of successful involvement in clinical research or drug development in biotech or pharmaceutical industry environment spanning clinical activities in Phases I through IV.
Clinical training/experience with strong scientific expertise in oncology
Breadth of experience spanning various aspects of oncology drug development and a sound understanding of oncology development landscape
Expert knowledge of assigned therapeutic area required, with the capability to innovate in clinical development study designs that provide relevant evidence to decision-makers, and to interpret, discuss and present clinical trial or section of program level data
Strong analytical skills and ability to rapidly evaluate scientific data to generate an opinion and a recommendation to either advance or terminate an opportunity
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills as well as ability to influence key stakeholders and decision makers in a matrix to effectively champion an opportunity within the organization
Possess an innovative mindset, strong learning agility, and ability to deal with tight timelines, uncertainty, and rapidly evolving scenarios
Entrepreneurial mindset and a good business acumen to rapidly see a business opportunity based on available scientific information)
