The Pricing & Contracting Lead plays a strategic role across the full commercialization continuum to form pricing & contracting strategy for optimal patient access and profitability.
Champion the development and cross functional interaction for optimal US General Medicines pricing & contracting strategies for in-line, launch and pipeline products. The position leads the interface between brand teams and cross functional stakeholders including global counterparts, policy and finance to manage activities and pricing and contracting approvals.
Major Activities (Describe 8-12 main activities)
1.Leads pricing & contracting related research including environmental assessment and price sensitivity for General Medicine s products with appropriate stakeholders (payors/physicians) across pipeline, launch and inline market considerations.
2.Develops/recommends pricing and contracting strategy for new products (Phase I through launch) including the evaluation of novel contracting approaches (guarantees, adherence initiatives, OBCs, flex pricing) ensuring the US strategy aligns with Global efforts including the:
a.Design, and development of pricing models to evaluate impact pre and post launch strategies including impact to ASP, AMP and best price through defined performance measurement techniques and make recommendations to adapt, where appropriate, across multiple customer channels (Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, LTC, GPO, VA and Specialty Pharmacy):
b.Develop forecasting models and analyses that define revenue deductions by individual account (stakeholder) as well access impact to sales forecasts.
c.Development of presentations for senior management review and approval
d.Model impact of life cycle pricing strategies including true realized profitability
e.Model impact of legislative measures on revenue
3.Collaborates with Brand Teams and PA&HP in development and maintenance of pricing and contracting strategy for in-line products. Leads recommendations for price actions for key inline assets
4.For the Strategic Plan, takes lead role in providing analysis for price actions, revenue deductions and percent of business across the Novartis General Medicines portfolio, including Pipeline compounds, Launch Brands and In-Line Brands.
5.In Support of the Contracting Strategies, consults with Finance and PA&HP to provide input on proposal development and financial analysis, including assumptions.
6.Core member of Development LPT and Business Unit Access LT to ensure Strategic Pricing viewpoints are considered to shape development plan, evidence generation and price parameters.
7.Key interface with HEOR to shape evidence to support market price.
8.Facilitate Global Alignment with both Global Access/Price teams and GPTs
9.Champion innovative pricing approaches to support market evolution, such as outcomes based contracts
10.Lead point for all business development/licensing opportunities to provide pricing and contracting insights for asset evaluation.

Bachelor s Degree in Math, Economics or other critical thinking major; advanced business degree (MBA) preferred
Average of 10 or more year s of pharmaceutical industry experience with 5+ years in a pricing capacity; experience in contract development and negotiation desirable
Comprehensive knowledge of access landscape, pricing vehicles and contracting strategies. Across a broad spectrum of channels/organizations (Health Plans, PBMs, Medicare Part D, Medicare Part B, Long-Term Care, GPOs, VA / DoD Specialty Pharmacy and State Medicaid)
Experience working on a Launch Team with focus of pricing and contracting strategies
Excellent ability to simplify and communicate complex concepts and analysis.
Strong financial acumen and ability to effectively forecast account level prices, discounts and sales.
Thorough understanding and knowledge of US healthcare economics and the drivers of pharmaceutical demand, including pricing and reimbursement.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position in Pricing and/or Managed Markets Contracting within the Pharmaceutical Industry, MBA or analytical degree a plus
Forward thinker to adept and grow with the evolving landscape
Proficient in PowerPoint and MS Excel including experience developing financial models
