To provide a diverse range of paralegal services that meet the needs of the business and the legal IP function within a team environment.
Review and access all incoming patent-related documents and correspondence, including documentation from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), European Patent Office (EPO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and agents representing Novartis around the world (ROW), and accurately docket and electronically distribute for multiple domestic and global sites according to established country laws and internal procedures (minimal scanning may be required).
Create and maintain case records within a database, which includes but not limited to docketing relevant events, updating case records according to recent status changes or data quality reviews, and electronic filing of relevant case-related correspondence and documents.
Respond to requests from attorneys, paralegals, and other IP staff.
Detect and communicate data and record management inconsistencies according to internal and system guidelines, together with country laws.
Support and assist with the paper file retention and retrieval process.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives. Participate in analyzing and adapting processes in order to improve efficiencies, drafting SOPs, identifying administrative procedures in need of review, and maintaining those currently in place.
Participate in Patent Services cross-team projects and responsibilities.

Bachelor s Degree or Paralegal Certification preferred
Minimum 5 years docketing experience in a corporation or patent law firm. Pharmaceutical experience preferred
Knowledge of global patent laws and procedures, including maintenance fees and renewals; together with an understanding of implications of changes to country patent laws
Knowledge of intellectual property docketing systems (CPA Memotech preferred)
Knowledge of online patent databases, namely for USPTO, WIPO and EPO
Knowledge of electronic data management system and Microsoft Office
Strong communication, interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills and high level of attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to prioritize high volume of work
Adaptability/flexibility to take on responsibilities outside area of focus
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and contribute to the team s overall success
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethics.
